![]() The older motor system just wasn’t as responsive or smart as this… still good, but not great. Hardware wise, I was very impressed with the new Peak DS and stunned by the price drop of $300 over prior-year model considering the upgraded motor and battery from Bosch vs. This system elevates the chain, reduces chain slap, eliminates kickback and chain slip. Further bolstering the drivetrain is an elevated chain pulley with surrounding guide and a narrow-wide tooth pattern on both the pulley cog and chainring sprocket. This motor offers software driven shift sensing as well, so the chain, sprockets and derailleur won’t take a beating. The top assisted speed is 20 mph and it’s easy to hit with the Bosch CX high torque motor. And since it’s running a 1×11 drivetrain, shifting between gears is smoother (shorter jumps than 8 or 10) but you still get comfortable cadence options for climbing and riding fast. It’s very sturdy and serviceable thanks to 15 mm and 12 mm thru-axles with quick release and an oversized tapered head tube. With 120 mm of travel, and 27.5″ x 2.2″ tires, this is more of a cross country style electric mountain bike. The IZIP E3 Peak DS is at the top end of the spectrum with high-performance components from SRAM and light weight air suspension from RockShox. It’s a company with good customer support, a solid network of dealers (mostly independent electric bike shops) and a whole range of products. If there are offers lower than those then look away, otherwise, proceed with caution, at you own risk.IZIP is one of the older electric bike companies operating in the United States, they’ve been a leader in the mid-level product space for several years and are now owned by the Accell Group which has Raleigh Electric and Haibike as well. Price range can vary from a low 56 cents per wh (EM3EV) to as high as $2.13 per wh (Stromer 938 wh battery). It has sophisticated battery management system (BMS) that assures long life. That's a pretty expensive battery but Bosch battery is also known for it's reliability that can last 5,000 charges. So a 500 wh Bosch battery that sells at $749 amounts to about $1.50 per wh. How do you know which one has the better value?Īlways check the price against the capacity. This can be confusing since price can vary widely, as well as the battery capacity. If you can inquire what cells are used, the better, as opposed to getting off brand generic cells with inconsistent performance. It has to be a reputable source, or at least sold in the same country where you can go back to the seller if something goes wrong or if you got a defective product. That seems high to me considering it’s only 10Ah.įor me there are 3 things to consider when buying a battery.įirst is the source. There’s the PRE option of a re-cell for $520 before shipping. I'd like to hear your opinions as well as suggestions. ![]() ![]() That seems high to me considering it’s only 10Ah.Įbay, Amazon,, and Aliexpress all seem to have 48v options with a minimum of 10Ah. There’s the EMP option of a re-cell for $520 before shipping. I'm currently not a fan of an OEM replacement at over $600 for such low Ah's. ![]() It seems they are out of stock on the carbon shark and other 48v battery packs? My only option through them seems to be the Dolphin. I would like to know what my current options are? After combing the forum for this info, I read all about the Luna Shark replacements. It has finally stopped taking any charge at all. I started to notice the battery would feel warm to the touch until it was down to 2 bars. It would completely discharged from full in about 3 days without using the bike. Riding the bike worked very well with plenty of juice left on the battery but it would lose charge quite fast when sitting. Up until about a month ago, the battery would fully charge to 5 bars. It worked great and between my two bikes, have basically replaced my car. I recently bought a used 2015 Izip E3 Dash for what I thought was a decent price. ![]()
